McCain, Martinez need to denounce Tancredo's comments on the National Council of La Raza
By now, I'm sure you've seen the footage of Tancredo calling the National Council of La Raza a "Latino KKK." The most recent Republican Presidential nominee, John McCain, should denounce these comments. After all, McCain keynoted NCLR's 2004 conference, and addressed their 2008 convention:
Mel Martinez should join Senator McCain in denouncing Tancredo. Less than three months ago, Martinez prominently accepted a Capital Award from NCLR in recognition of his "outstanding support of public policies that are vital to Hispanic Americans." In his acceptance speech, Martinez asked the crowd to pressure Obama for bolder action on immigration reform:
“We have got to come to an understanding” on immigration, Martinez implored recently at the National Council of La Raza’s gala, where he and Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.) were honored for their work on behalf of Hispanics. “Comprehensive immigration reform has got to be back on the top of the agenda,” Martinez said. “It’s the right thing to do.”

They won't though, none of them will. These voices represent the true core of the Republican party and frankly, the only meat they have left on that rotting corpse.
I truly believe that most "mainstream" Republicans have no concept of how offensive or dangerous their fringe truly is -- they have stood so close to the edge themselves, they've lost any sense of the real depths of their core depravity.

Why would the "party leaders" denounce him now, when the party's candidates moved towards Tancredo's statements during the primary?
They are doing everything they can to destroy themselves. What exactly is the problem with this? If the party survives, it is because it is about bribery and elected representatives on both sides that are clearly and unabashedly in the pocket of one or more payola deal. Do we care if we lose any of these primates in the next election? (my apologies to all other primates who exhibit more civilized behavior)
I'm glad to hear that Mel accepted an award from La Raza. Does anyone else realize that former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales (sp?) was on the Board of Directors for a La Raza subsidiary? Not just a member, a Director. Where were all the cries of "racism" and "KKK" then?
To that point, La Raza praised Bush for selecting Alberto Gonzales to the AG spot... why? Because of his race. That kind of pisses me off. This group wants to advocate for Hispanic Americans, but they're so partisan they will accept anyone in any position (it seems) as long as they're hispanic. How did AG help Hispanic Americans? Why would they praise Bush for a horrible selection??
Any group that says something is good or bad based solely on race, is a group of idiots. I don't know enough about the rest of La Raza to say they are or aren't always like that, but that pissed me off.

I'm trying to picture a group called the National Council of the Race and it contains nothing but white people and is a group dedicated to "advancing the cause" of the white race. How would that be perceived? It would look pretty damned racist.
